She sent the text, laid her phone on the table, picked up the menu, and pretended to read it. Tom always returned her text right away, but this time she heard nothing from him. Nor did she receive word that her bank account had increased. When she spotted Michael coming back to the table, she quickly turned her phone completely off and put it in her purse.
